Novala design studio

Design rooted in
careful attention

Novala is a Kuala Lumpur interior design studio that works with homeowners, businesses, and property developers who want spaces shaped with intention — not speed.

Back to Home

Started with a simple question:
"What does this space need?"

Novala grew from a shared frustration with how interior design was often delivered — as a cascade of decisions pushed onto clients before they'd had time to think, with outcomes that reflected a portfolio more than a person.

We opened our studio in Taman Tun Dr Ismail in 2017, wanting to offer something quieter: a process that starts with listening, builds from genuine understanding, and results in spaces that feel entirely right to the people who use them.

Over the years we've worked with first-time homeowners navigating their first renovation, professionals converting offices into environments worth spending time in, and hospitality operators who understand that atmosphere is part of what they're selling. Each project has reinforced the same belief — good design doesn't shout.

Today, Novala operates as a small, deliberate studio. We take on a limited number of projects at any given time so that each one receives the attention it deserves.

Our Mission

To create interior spaces that genuinely serve the people who inhabit them — shaped by listening rather than trends, and built to last beyond the moment they're finished.

Standards we hold ourselves to

These aren't policies written for a brochure — they're the things we actually care about in every project we take on.

Listening first

Every project begins with a proper conversation, not a pitch. We spend time understanding how you use your space before we start thinking about how it should look.

Clear documentation

Every design decision is documented in writing — material specifications, supplier details, measurements — so nothing gets lost between the design and the build.

Privacy by default

We treat your home and project details with discretion. We don't share project images on social media or in our portfolio without your explicit permission.

Honest scope management

If a project is heading outside its agreed scope, we raise it early and openly. We'd rather have a direct conversation than let misalignment build quietly.

Considered material choices

We give preference to locally sourced materials and suppliers with responsible practices — both for quality reasons and because it tends to reduce project lead times.

Post-project support

Once a project wraps, we don't disappear. If questions or issues arise in the weeks after completion, we're available to help resolve them.

Interior design in Kuala Lumpur, shaped by local knowledge

Working in KL means understanding how the city's climate, building stock, and cultural context shape what works in an interior. The humidity, the light quality at different orientations, the way Malaysian families tend to use shared spaces — these aren't abstract considerations for us. They're the starting point for every floor plan.

TTDI is a neighbourhood with a mix of older landed properties, more recent condominium developments, and a growing number of commercial conversions. Over the years, we've worked across all three building types and have developed a practical understanding of what each presents in terms of constraints and potential.

Our clients tend to value quality over speed — they're not looking for a quick renovation with a template finish. They want a space that has been thought through properly, one that they'll still feel comfortable in five or ten years from now. That's the kind of work we're set up to do well.

Curious about working together?

A short conversation is usually the best way to find out whether we're a good fit. No pressure, no obligation.
